Hong Kong – Pixel Media has announced that it has extended its successful mobile by Pixel Media advertising platform to the Android operating system (OS) in strategic partnership with HTC. This is the first time that an advertiser has supported the development of an advertising platform in the Hong Kong market.
Pixel Media has signed exclusive advertising sales representation agreements for Android apps with some of Hong Kong’s leading content providers. These include the Commercial Radio app HK Toolbar, discussion forum apps for Discuss.com.hk and Uwants.com, and newspaper apps for Metro and MetroPop. These apps were officially launched on the Android Marketplace in early April and are available free to all Android users. Many more Hong Kong focused Android apps are in the pipeline.
The extension of mobile by Pixel Media to Android reflects the rapid growth of the Android platform. According to independent telecoms analyst Ovum, over 200 million Android equipped phones are expected to be sold by 2016 in Asia Pacific. Over the same period, Android’s market share is expected to reach 38 percent in the region. These market changes make mobile by Pixel Media for Android a natural fit for Pixel Media, given its current iOS portfolio.
Mobile by Pixel Media for Android was launched in strategic partnership with HTC, a global leader in mobile innovation and design. In exchange for their support, HTC has gained exclusive rights and co-branded partnerships to HK Toolbar, Discuss and Uwants Android Applications as well as have direct access link on these Apps to HTC services.
Terry Chung, Country Manager of HTC Hong Kong and Macau said, “We are pleased to support the launch of leading Android based apps for Hong Kong consumers and mobile by Pixel Media’s Android App Network. Consumers are increasingly looking for localized and useful applications on their mobile phone and as the market leader in Android based devices, we are pleased to ensure that we support the development of localised Android apps that prove useful to consumers.”
Kevin Huang, CEO of Pixel Media said, “Since its launch in January, mobile by Pixel Media on the iPhone helped advertisers engage with Hong Kong’s growing iPhone user base. With the rising popularity of the Android OS devices in the city, we are proud to bring mobile by Pixel Media to the Android platform, dramatically increasing the ability of advertisers to engage with their target audiences in the mobile space.”
He adds, “With the support of a major mobile manufacturer, we are confident that Android market will become robust and exciting with the addition of major local apps, making the mobile Internet experience for end users becoming increasingly compelling.”
Oscar Leung, General Manager of Networld Technology, owner and operator of leading community sites in HK including Discuss and Uwants said, “We are pleased to gain the support of HTC and be a part of mobile by Pixel Media for the launch of our Android Apps. Our end users are increasingly mobile and becoming accessible on multi-screens to them is increasingly important. Working with HTC for the launch of our Android apps is natural fit”.
